Winona Laura Horowitz, professionally referred to by the name Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her in honor of her hometown. His father Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's mother and father also happen to be Jewish. Ryder believes herself to be Jewish. The actress is the younger sister of Uria as well as half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder relocated with her family to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. The family didn't have electricity. Ryder was a voracious bookworm and would spend her days reading books because there was no TV. Ryder was enrolled in acting classes at the age of Ryder was twelve years old, and was enrolled in classes at the American Conservatory Theatre. In the year she turned 15, Ryder landed her first acting job onscreen, playing Lucas. Ryder was bullied in high school. Ryder was hopeful that her work as an actor would be able to help. However, the plan didn't pan out. It didn't stop her from making plans for her future. In 1988, the year that Tim Burton released Beetlejuice that gave her her first big break. Ryder kept playing successful roles in several movies. In 1993 Ryder was twice nominated in the Academy Awards. One of the nominations was for her part as a character in The Age of Innocence.
